Gaddafi may indeed have been brutal by, say, northern European standards, but by the standards of Africa and the Middle East Gaddafi’s record on behalf of the Libyan people looks laudatory. Libya has (had) the highest human development index in Africa. Apparently that needed to change, for reasons that have never been made clear by the Administration or the media. The line keeps getting repeated that Gaddafi was a terrible tyrant and that line is being internalized by more and more people, but that doesn’t necessarily make it true, nor does it mean the future alternative will be better.

Apropos to which, when Hillary Clinton and our head assassin, General Petraeus, upbraided the Pakistanis yesterday for “harboring foreign elements” that “target civilians for killing” the irony was overwhelming. Look in the mirror people.
