E. Housman<\/a>, whom Darrow visited in 1927. Housman has long been a personal favorite of mine, ever since I was turned on to him (and Omar, and Reading Gaol) by Robert Service&#8217;s poem &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.poemhunter.com\/poem\/bookshelf\/\">Bookshelf<\/a>.&#8221; Here&#8217;s a representative sample:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Stars, I have seen them fall,<br \/>\nBut when they drop and die<br \/>\nNo star is lost at all<br \/>\nFrom all the star-sown sky.<br \/>\nThe toil of all that be<br \/>\nHelps not the primal fault;<br \/>\nIt rains into the sea,<br \/>\nAnd still the sea is salt.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>I am, alas, not particularly inspired by the Occupy Wall Street movement,\u00a0 for sentiments suggested by the poem above and reasons expressed by <a href=\"http:\/\/c4ss.org\/content\/8583\">Thomas Knapp<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/gerryspence.wordpress.com\/2011\/10\/05\/pain-protests-and-the-people\/\">Gerry Spence<\/a>, and especially <a href=\"http:\/\/www.backwoodshome.com\/blogs\/ClaireWolfe\/2011\/10\/09\/occupy-your-ownself\/\">Claire Wolfe<\/a>, who advises: &#8220;Occupy Your Ownself.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Noted A.
